It has been an eventful couple of weeks for the Philadelphia Flyers. The team was in the midst of their season high seven game win-streak as they easily handled the Tampa Bay Lightning at home on December 10th. The 5-2 victory came only one day after the organization was dealt crushing news regarding Captain Chris Pronger. General Manager Paul Holmgren shared the disheartening diagnoses regarding Pronger and his bout with post-concussion syndrome. Doctors have ruled out Pronger for the rest of the regular season and playoffs. The Philadelphia Flyers have soared into first place in the Eastern Conference after registering a 6-1-0 record in their last seven games. The Flyers have played consistently with speed and grit over the last two weeks to build their overall record to an impressive 17-7-3. NHL Re-alignment: Yay or Nay?

The NHL is gearing up for a major face lift. The Board of Governors voted on Monday and agreed on a drastically different re-alignment for the leagues structure moving forward. The current two conference system with three divisions in each conference is getting scrapped and the league will shift to a four conference configuration. The changes expected to take place starting next season not only effect regular season play but will also radically change how the playoffs will be set up.
