The Flyers had an up-and-down week as they worked to keep pace near the top of the Eastern Conference standings. They started out by winning two games on the road. They downed the upstart Panthers 3-2 and took care of the struggling Carolina Hurricanes 5-3. The Flyers played solid road outings by simplifying the game, getting pucks in deep, and killing off 11 power play opportunities that they afforded their opponents. The Philadelphia Flyers have continued their steady play by notching a 3-0-2 record in their last five games. The Flyers have earned at least one point in the standings in 11 out of 15 games played in the young NHL season. Their record of 8-4-3 is good for a tie for the 2nd most points in the Eastern Conference through the first chunk of the season.
